I see your point about the fandom thing. I hadn't really thought that bit through so much, since I'm not involved. As far as LJ vs WP filters, you're probably right - I've never filtered anything on my WP blog because I don't have to. (It's purely cooking and gardening, whereas here is much more personal.)
Perhaps the answer is to either super-filter stuff about family on your LJ account or to start a separate LJ/WP/whatever blog for your personal stuff. That way, you can keep yourself on LJ for the fandom research, and you won't lose the "brand" you've already built for yourself with this sn (since I assume you've participated quite a bit already under this name).
