Birthday improvement
On my birthday two years ago, my kitten Vodka was diagnosed with anemia.  They told me he'd die within days.

On my birthday one year ago, Vodka was rushed to the hospital.  He went into cardiac arrest, coded, was revived.  I left my birthday cake on the counter where I was icing it with Sadie, caught a cab to the vet, and cried in the lobby until they let me see him.  He lived another three days.

Kate promised me that, for my birthday this year, she'd make sure it was better than the last two.  She bought me concert tickets for an early present.

So I was here.  The lightening strike?  Ten feet from me and the pregnant wife.  Literally; we were in the back row of the top section.  We jumped over seats to get down the stairs faster.  I banged the shit out of my left leg, right above the plate.  Then we had to walk down the hundreds of feet of stairs out to our car, soaking wt, where they told us to wait an hour.  We sat in the car as the rain plummeted down, listening to the radio to hear if the concert was going to be cancelled all together, getting increasingly hysterical.  Then we went back to the concert, and Michael Stipe handed out Obama t-shirts to the people in the first row and they did Ignoreland and Welcome to the Occupation.  Xander's favorite song is Losing My Religion, which he kicked along to in time.  They did a totally unrehearsed End of the World, complete with the boys disagreeing on how many repeats of the chorus it had at the end.  We were drenched.  Then it took us two hours to drive home, ending with hysterical Kate laughing until she cried and me falling the type of asleep where you have lucid dreams you can't distinguish from reality so you start talking.

Despite nearly getting hit by lightening and having a long string of bruises from knee to plate, it remains the best birthday memory of a while.  Granted, there's another month until the actual birthday.
